Our ground reaction AFO is designed with the intention of using ground reaction forces to control and align the knee and ankle during ambulation. The ground reaction AFO plastic extends proximally over the pretibial area and the distal trimline extends to the forefoot providing maximal resistance to plantarflexion encouraging knee extension. This spreads the load applied to the front of the shin to extend the knee and maintain the ankle in a plantigrade position. This device will provide optimal dorsiflexion stop mechanics for crouch gait patterns. Ground reaction AFOs tend to be slightly bulkier than other AFOs, but with precise fit they provide optimal function for the right patient.
